Quilty Questions ~ How to Keep a Cat Off the Ironing Board?

Today's Quilty Question:  How to Keep a Cat Off the Ironing Board?

Cats love ironing boards!  They are toasty warm.  They are elevated.  They are where the action is.  So how do you keep your furry friends off the ironing board?  Here are a few ideas.

My cats refused to participate in this experiment.  They were busy sleeping in the warm sunshine.  I'll be using Pepper here in the photos.

Technique #1:  Spray bottle of water.  This plant mister works well with my cats.  After a spray or two, I can just leave the bottle on the board and they stay away.  Plus, it's handy for pressing stubborn fabrics.

Technique #2:  When you aren't using your board, leave a crinkly sheet of aluminum foil on top.  Depending on the cat, they may be surprised by the noise when they jump up on the board.  This worked for one of my cats, but later I found another cat taking a nap on the foil.

Technique #3:  Don't oil your ironing board!  After a while of not oiling the board it will make a scary screeching noise when you fold or unfold it, possibly scaring the cat away.

Technique #4:  Don't allow the cat in the sewing room.  I don't recommend this for two reasons.  One, the cat will likely sit outside the closed door meowing loudly and incessantly.  Two, you may be lonely without your kitty friend.

Technique #5:  The lint roller.  This is what I do the most.  I lint roll my ironing board and cutting table every time I am getting ready to sew.  It works.

Technique #6: Lint roll the cat.  My cats don't like this, but it doesn't seem to bother them enough to stay away for long.
