It's All Up to You featuring Purple Pinwheels

Hello!  This is Purple Pinwheels.  It's my Island Batik Ambassador project for March.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this project were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.
For the month of March we were given free rein to make any project we would like!  Yippee!  Isn't that fun?  I decided to make a pinwheel quilt for windy March.

I used fabrics from the Playful Purples 10" precut stack, plus Island Batik solid gray, solid white, Bubbles Periwinkle, and Marine.

I cut out my pieces with my Accuquilt Go.  I cut all of the small purple triangles from the Bubbles Periwinkle fabric.

I cleaned my sewing machine, inserted a fresh new Schmetz needle, and some Aurifil thread, and sewed like the wind!  Sometimes it is fun to do an easy project like this.

I used Hobbs Heirloom Cotton batting and quilted in a loopy meander with Aurifil 2520, a lovely purple color.

Here's a peek at the backing.  It's Island Batik's Almond, a beautiful neutral fabric.  You can get this fabric all year round.  It's always available.  Actually now that I think about it, I believe that is true of all the fabrics I used for this quilt.  I don't think I used any seasonal fabrics.

Windy March was not messing around today.  I went outside to take photos and my quilt blew down right away.  I tried a couple of different spots, but that wind wasn't playing!  It blew my pinwheels away.  I will be posting a video of my quilt blowing right off the clothesline on my Instagram soon.  Catch that @curlicuecreations.

I ended up laying the quilt on the ground in a sheltered area and taking photos standing on a stepstool.
Here you can see one of the large pinwheel blocks I made with fabrics from the Playful Purples collection.  I used a few different fabrics and mixed them up for the blocks.

Purple Pinwheels pretty folds.

I did something different for the binding of this quilt.  I usually match the binding to my outer border, but I didn't have enough Marine fabric left, so I used solid Fuschia for the binding.  I think it's pretty zippy looking.

  2. Purple and pinwheels! What's not to love, Jennifer?!! And I love the solid fuscia for the binding! It's definitely zippy looking and pulls out the fuscias in the quilt.
