The Making of the Blown Away Quilt

Disclaimer:  Products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners at no cost to me.
The idea for the Blown Away quilt was to show a block exploding into larger and larger blocks diagonally across the quilt top.  I searched this book for the perfect block for this design. I chose the Turnstile block.  If you own this fabulous book, it's on page 114.

I chose these lovely yellow, purple, and gray fabrics from my Island Batik stash and got right to work.

Some of the cutting was done with a ruler and rotary cutter.

Some of the cutting was done with an Accuquilt Go.  I use the Go whenever possible.  Everything cuts out so accurately and quickly.  It's awesome!

The Blown Away top came together very quickly.  It was super easy to sew.  The hardest part was making sure everything was facing the correct way to make the design.

I added a thin purple border for the pinwheel design and quilting to flow into.

I used straight line quilting and purple and yellow Aurifil thread to accent the movement of the pinwheels across the quilt.

"Don't even think of moving me", that look says.

I pulled this fun gray, black, and white fabric out of my stash to sew the sleeve.

The Blown Away finish.  The sun was in the wrong place for taking photos, but I think it looks kind of cool with the sunbeam across the front, plus you can really see the quilting lines in this photo.  What do you think?
