Hello! Welcome to my little segment of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Road Rally Blog Tour. I'm so happy you've stopped by today. This is my block from Volume 15, Cherry Bon Bon.
It's block #1492, shown on page 56 of the magazine, and also on the cover.
Vroom! Vroom! I drove my trusty old Singer 301 to sew the easy half square triangle seams on this block. This is my favorite machine. It sews fast. I'm sure it would do well in a quilting road rally.
I made nine Cherry Bon Bon blocks into this cute lap size quilt. See the nice secondary design you get when you put these blocks together? I finished this quilt off with a simple skinny black border and a wider red border.

The Cherry Bon Bon quilt block is quite versatile. You can get a number of different looks using the same fabrics. I've just changed their positions in the blocks. Here, I've reversed the creams and the blacks.
In this version, I've eliminated the brown fabric, replacing it with black, and changed the original black patches to red.
In this block, I've brought the brown fabric back in, by changing the outer pink triangles to brown, and keeping just a touch of pink in the center square of the block. You could play with this block endlessly, for so many different looks. It was tough to choose my favorite for the magazine.
Here's an example of how the four versions I've shown today could look in a wall hanging sampler. I like it. I may sew one of these, too.

I would probably just drive a Mustang but honestly I love a horse and buggy.
ReplyDeleteI love this traditional block. Also, the colors are nice. I might try this with some really bright colors. I think this pattern with the brights might just bring traditional to a whole different level. Thank you for this block.

ReplyDeleteroad rally vehicle ideas. Mad Max comes to mind with all the "Monster" cars and trucks that were created for the movie. I drive a sporty and fast silver Infiniti. Thanks for sharing.

My favorite block today! Love the fabric line you used! I would have to drive something with lots of room, you never know what you cannot leave without! I collect vintage sewing machines, too. I don't have a 301 though, lucky you!

ReplyDeleteI'd be driving my old Nissan pulsar with t top roofs. It was always so much fun, except once when we got caught in the rain and had left the t tops at home. Your block is really cute, I want to try it in bright colors. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteYes I do love this block very much. I have also enjoyed seeing different color layouts. It just shows what you can do with one block. You make it so easy for us. These layouts are just priceless. I would be driving my blue Pilot Honda. You sit up high and can see so much. Wanna get there fast, but don't want to drive. Don't want hubby to drive either. Plus, I can do stitching while Choo-chooing a long! Congrats on a great block. Putting on my to-do list!!!!

ReplyDeleteI suppose if I were to go on a road rally, the best type of vehicle to use would be an ATV, not our Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. Love your block -- it looks great in the different variations.

Road rally.....vintage: we own a 76 El Camino, sporty: in my dreams a corvette, a maserati, a lamborghini, a mustang.....not happening, so I go with safe and comfortable.

I really like your block -- and have some fabrics that will be terrific for it. If I was on a road rally I would have to have a really nice SUV with big comfy seats, good AC and a good stereo system. I am at the age where I like to travel in comfort :)

ReplyDeleteWhen I go on a quilt shop rally, I drive my XC90 Volvo. But if I am going on a joy ride with hubby, we go on a homemade trike. It is a Harley on the front and Volkswagon on the rear.

ReplyDeleteOne rally it was our green Jaguar. It really was not road ready, but we had lots of fun and even a dinner with the car club after the rally. Love how you set your block with different colors. it would be fun to make your block for a wall art.

ReplyDeleteON the road I drive a Toyota Sienna van, but in the quilting room I drive a short bed 301 exactly like yours... and I have a long bed 301. I call them Lucy and Ethel!

ReplyDeleteI am tickled pink with your block. I prefer to do "traditional" blocks, and this one fits right in. I'll need to buy a copy of the 100 Blocks simply to get your pattern even if none of the others catch my fancy (fat chance of that).
