Greetings Blog-Hoppers! Are you ready for a Polka Party? I hope you are all having a splendorous time visiting the designer's blogs for the Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 5 blog tour. I'm so, so very happy you could stop by Curlicue Creations today. Read on, as I will be giving away a copy of the upcoming issue at the end of this post, plus a couple of surprises from the Curlicue Creations Shop.
Polka Party
Here is the block I made for the issue. I've been doing a lot of playing with polka dots lately, so out came the Polka Party block. I haven't made a quilt with it yet, but I've got some ideas floating around.
Here's one I made in another colorway. I haven't done the zig-zag stitching around the applique pieces yet. I didn't really like the colors at first, but it's been sitting out in my studio for about a week and it's growing on me. Kind of tropical looking, I think. The kids like it.
Here's some quilt ideas for the Polka Party block. I thought this looked nice as a simple wall hanging with a lot of Ker-Pow! to it.
Then, if you put a few of these together, you get this marvy design. I might go with that, in a scrappy version, same colorway, just scrappy fabrics from my stash.
I also changed up the colors and setting to come up with another quilt. Splendid! The aqua blues and greens really pop against the solid black here.
And for something completely different, I came up with this red, white, and black quilt with no sashing and just a simple border. This one reminds me of ladybugs.
I also did block testing for this issue again - for the last time - boo-hoo! I have really enjoyed being a block tester. It was so much fun to try out different techniques as I happily stitched away on different designer's blocks for this issue. Sadly, after testing for three issues, I have been retired to make way for others. I hope they enjoy it as much as I did. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you so much, Quiltmaker! Here's a peek at a sampler quilt I made for Volume 5 using some of the blocks I tested.
Wedding Chapel Windows
I used the fabric collection Mosaic from Timeless Treasures. Simply radiant fabric - I loved it! This quilt means a lot to me, as I just got married (in a wedding chapel) on April 10, 2012. It was so romantic & the quilt really reflects upon my wedding day. Please also note my name has changed to Jennifer Schifano Thomas.
Of course, I invited Pepper Mint on my honeymoon. She travels everywhere with me. She just can't stand to miss out on anything. So, to win an issue of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 5, leave a comment, guessing where Pepper Mint is vacationing in the above photo. I will randomly pick a winner from the correct answers. I will also be sending the winner a couple of surprises from the Curlicue Creations Shop. Good Luck! Please be sure to also visit all the other dazzling blogs on the tour this week. I know I will be - it's so much fun!
Until next time...please visit the Curlicue Creations Shop, and have a super day!
Jennifer

ReplyDeleteI think Pepper Mint is vacationing in the Colorado mountains. Your block is cute and I especially like the setting with the big circles in it. It goes so well with the small dots. I liked all the different settings though too.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say that Pepper Mint is vacationing with you in the mountains of Virginia. She is so cute! :)
ReplyDeleteI like polka dots. The block quilt is really cute. That is what I would be making with my copy of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 5 issue. I also got married in a chapel in Nevada, 22 years ago. It looks like a cabin in Nevada or maybe even Colorado. Could be either one, because of the mountains. Thank you for giving us all a chance to win.

ReplyDeleteThis is just a guess, but the first thing that came to mind was Tenn. with the mountains in the back ground. Lucky Pepper Mint.

ReplyDeleteIs she in the Smoky Mountains? Cute block with lots of options.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say Tennessee.

ReplyDeleteThe Smokies? Congrats on the wedding, and the block. :)
ReplyDeleteit looks like you enjoyed a vacation near the mountains. It's not the Poconos. Our mountains are softer at the top, not as jagged as those you are showing. Too bad only the correct answers get a chance to win, so I know I won't win here.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the Smokies. How about Tennessee?
ReplyDeleteNapa valley
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being in the magazine and getting married! Well I dont know the east coast all that well but it sort of looks like the mountain in Northern New Hampshire. Looks lovely where ever it is.

ReplyDeleteI have to say the Smokies also. Congratulations on your marriage.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is Pepper Mint is in the mountains of western NC - a beautiful place to vacation. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI really like your polka party block, especially when it is set on point. Great! I am not really sure, but will have to go with the Smoky Mountains for the vacation spot.
ReplyDeleteYour picture looks like the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee or North Carolina.
ReplyDeletecanada!!
ReplyDeletem.
Obviously it's somewhere in the mountains. Virginia and Tennessee are my fave states, so I'm going with VA.
ReplyDeleteI think Pepper Mint is in Pennsylvania. The Poconos?
ReplyDeleteJennifer, again congratulations on your nuptials. I think Pepper Mint is in Virginia. Love the use of Ker-Pow! and Marvy! I think there was another one from the 70s was it? Appropriate for the block styles they were describing. I like your Ker-Pow version best. Hopefully new doors will open for you at Quiltmaker as it seems your Polka Party design has. Sandi
ReplyDeleteI have to go with the Smokies, but really I'm guessing. Love your block, especially in the table cover.
ReplyDeleteThe Ozark Mountains? I have no idea. THanks for the chance to win, although I doubt if I have the right answer.
ReplyDeleteMy guess that Pepper Mint is sunning in the Rockies...Colorado or Northern New Mexico.
ReplyDeleteThe picture reminds me of our trip to the Smokey Mountains and Ashville.

ReplyDeleteHuge congratulations on your wedding. I am going to guess a cabin somewhere in Virginia.
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations also on being included in Issue 5! How exciting. I love your block and the quilt you posted showing the bright colored scrappy look is awesome. That would be perfect for a baby.

ReplyDeleteI'm going to guess Virginia, the Blue Ridge Mountains. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to make a "brilliant" guess and say that she went with you on your honeymoon. It looks quite lovely. I'm thinking the Blue Ridge Mountains, so you didn't go too far from home. My husband and I have driven through them --- their beauty is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'd guess that Pepper Mint is in the Blue Ridge mountains. Sweet block! Thanks 'sew much' for the chance to win!!
ReplyDeleteOzark mountains? Love the wedding chapel windows quilt!

ReplyDeleteYour block is very unique, polka dots now I must try to use some from my stash. Thanks for giveaway , don't know where that picture was taken, just looks like a gorgeous mountain area, so green.
ReplyDeleteWell I will go with everyone else and guess smokey Mountains. Haven't traveled that much.
ReplyDeleteI'm not even trying to guess where the mountains are. If they had snow on them I'd say Colorado. How fun that you went from testing to designing a block. Volume 5 was my first time testing. I didn't know there was a 'term limit' and I would have to retire after 3 years. :( It is way fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing those are the Blue Ridge Mountains, so maybe, Virginia?
ReplyDeleteFrom Australia, what shall I guess? Are the Rocky Mountains too big of an area? But I always wanted to walk the Appalachian trail, Pepper Mint doesn't look like a back-packer so not that one. If I go any further I will go dottier (is that a word?) than your blocks - love the flower centre in one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sunny, spring, green giveaway.
congratulations on your wedding. I'm guessing somewhere near the Smokey Mountains. Love your block.
ReplyDeleteI Love Your Polka Party Block! Did you Polka at your Wedding? I Love Pepper Mint! She looks like she is Vacationing in Tennessee?

I'm from the UK, so really don't know where the photo is - I don't think it's Scotland, which is our hilliest area though.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...kinda blue...kinda ridge....Blue Ridge Mts? Wow you have it going on....newly married, published in the issue...Congrats on all your recent accomplishments and life events :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like she is in the mountains at a cabin
ReplyDeleteI live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia (Blue Ridge Mtns)....and that scene is reminiscent of here or it could easily be the Smokies in TN. That's a hard one in order to be entered!
ReplyDeleteI'll say Tennessee
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your wedding and having a published block. Being in Australia I really have no idea where the photo is taken, although I assume you honeymooned in your home state. However, it looks really beautiful and looks a bit like our "Blue Mountains" in NSW...so perhaps you travelled to Little Hartley, NSW Australia?
